GateSafe® Gate Hinge Protector & Finger Guard
Gate hinge gaps can create accessible pinch and crush points, particularly where children or members of the public use an entrance regularly. GateSafe® is a heavy-duty gate hinge protector designed to cover the moving hinge area and help reduce the risk of fingers, hands or limbs becoming trapped.
GateSafe can be fitted to many manual and automated gates, including gates hung on conventional hinges or eyebolts. It can also be mounted between a gate and an adjoining pillar or post, making it suitable for new installations and retrofit safety improvements.
Each guard is supplied as a 2-metre section that can be trimmed to the required height. Depending on the gate design and risk assessment, protection can be fitted to either or both accessible faces of the hinge gap.

GateSafe is intended for gates beside pedestrian routes and in environments where children, patients, visitors or staff may be able to reach the hinge area.

Retrofit Gate Hinge Protection
GateSafe forms a flexible cover over the hinge zone while allowing the gate to operate. Its adjustable length means it can often be added to an existing gate without replacing the gate itself.
Before installation, check:
- the width and movement of the gap;
- the gate opening angle;
- the hinge or eyebolt arrangement;
- which areas can be reached by users;
- the material and condition of the fixing surface.
Fixing screws are not included because the correct type depends on the gate, pillar or post material.
Important Safety Note for Automated Gates
GateSafe addresses the hinge-gap hazard only. It does not, by itself, make a powered gate system safe or compliant.
Automated gates may also require force limitation, safety edges, sensors, guarding at other crushing or drawing-in points, emergency release arrangements and regular maintenance. The complete installation should be assessed by a competent person.
